Your summer of travel will play out in the cards

“It was the journey that mattered.”

– Chad Oldfather

This is the time of the 12 months when we kick off the Holiday Postcard Contest.

Concerning now and Labor Day, I will be counting playing cards, if you decide on to send out them.

E-mail the illustrations or photos if you never.

The intention is to get a card or image from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. I admit this is not as effortless as it made use of to be. Not only is the gasoline for driving on vacations really, really high-priced, but so is postage.

Then there are the postcards them selves. They are tough to obtain.

I’ll ask you to embrace the obstacle and modern technology. Acquire a picture with your phone. Then just e-mail it to me at [email protected]

Much more Invoice Kirby: We can all place terrible drivers, but can we identify them?

Also: Near election? They say we had 1 in the 1860s

And: We have invented the long term a single tiny stage at a time

We will see which point out receives the most area guests. We’ll see which point out has the funniest postcards. We will see what animal different states like to celebrate. (Trace: Kentucky likes horses.)

Inform you what. If you put your return deal with on your card, I’ll send you one when I go on holiday vacation.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW? I just checked the newsroom mailbox and found a wonderful ballpark postcard from Kansas Town sent by William and Anita McKie. They generate: “Saw the White Sox shutout the Royals even while Kansas Town experienced much more adult men on base. Good stadium with waterfalls in outfield region. Also wasn’t crowded like St. Louis for a Tuesday p.m. sport.”

Lorinda and Joe Fournier, of Evans, had been in Tampa traveling to Aurora, Alan and Maria for a late Thanksgiving and Mother’s Day celebration.”

Rosemary Suchko and John Mohr, of Martinez, sent a card from Georgia’s coastal Cumberland Island and share a background lesson.

“Checking out our southern coastline,” they compose. “Took historical tour and figured out about ‘movers and shakers’ (A/K/A outdated revenue) who proven the Jekyll Island Club. Then on to Cumberland Island to study about the period when the Carnegie loved ones owned the island. Enjoyed seeing the wild horses. Stayed at a pleasant B&B (Goodbread House) in St. Mary’s – next oldest city after St. Augustine.”

Sandra Schumann, of Hephzibah, reviews “Tommy and I are on Carnival Horizon, currently in Aruba. Docked next to the Free of charge Winds ship owned by Scientology! On to Bonaire and Curacao. Subsequent ABC Islands.”

(See, that wasn’t so hard. Only 48 to go.)

Modern JOKE: It was the conclusion of a hectic day and a mom was seeking to get her 4-calendar year-aged off to mattress right after supper. Her endurance was gone and out of the blue she shouted, “Alright! You are placing on you PJs, brushing your enamel, we’re looking through a single tale, then … lights out!”

The little female appeared startled. Then she achieved up and place her arms all over her mother’s neck.

“We learned in Sunday school about tiny boys and women who you should not have mommies and daddies,” she reported carefully.

The harried mom softened and hugged her youngster near, only to hear her whisper,  “It’s possible you could go be their mother.”
