If you’re looking for any excuse to get away and have some seaside R&R in the near or not too distant future, the publication Travel + Leisure has an answer for you — take a weekend and enjoy some of the most desirable beaches in Massachusetts on Cape Cod.
Travel + Leisure recently compiled a list of the 15 best weekend beach getaways in the United States, and while it’s not ranked, the publication made its assessment to encompass the geographic area of the U.S., while also acknowledging not everyone has the time to devote to a faraway long-term coastal vacation.
“When you’re in need of some sand and surf, but short on time, a rejuvenating weekend trip is the perfect way to get your fix before heading back to work on Monday (or Tuesday, if you can squeeze in a three-day weekend),” the publication wrote.
For Cape Cod, Travel + Leisure called it the “quintessential Massachusetts beach weekend getaway,” adding that for those coming from Boston its usually an hour and a half to two hour drive — though that depends just how far down the Cape you go.
Travel + Leisure specifically listed Hyannis, Provincetown and Chatham as some of the quaint towns visitors have to choose from.
The publication also recommended for some of the best lounging and sunbathing to visit Cape Cod National Seashore, replete with six beaches for swimming.
Travel + Leisure also noted Coast Guard Beach as being a “family-friendly option” and Nauset Light Beach for having great surfing.
Other destinations listed by Travel + Leisure in its list of the best weekend beach getaways were the Hamptons in New York, the Outer Banks in North Carolina and the Jersey Shore in New Jersey.
