Lord Mayor of Dublin joins Tourism Ireland to shine a spotlight on Bloomsday, Dublin and our wealthy literary heritage in Spain

This Bloomsday in Madrid, Tourism Ireland is celebrating the centenary of Ulysses, with a number of occasions using place right throughout the day. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alison Gilliland, has joined Tourism Ireland in the Spanish cash, to spotlight Dublin and our loaded literary heritage.

James Joyce’s celebrated Ulysses was first published as a total novel in February 1922. A single hundred many years later, Tourism Ireland is taking each possibility to shine a spotlight on ‘Ulysses100’ in its promotional activity in Spain, and in other vital markets for tourism all around the globe. The organisation’s aim is to encourage opportunity visitors to arrive and follow in the footsteps of Leopold Bloom, to explore Dublin and the residence of Ulysses.

Today’s busy programme has been organised in collaboration with Soy de la Cuesta (an affiliation representing the origins of Cuesta de Moyano, the web page of Madrid’s e book industry), the Embassy of Eire in Spain, Ateneo de Madrid and Barrio de las Letras. It incorporates a distinctive Bloomsday Breakfast, attended by all around 30 leading Spanish journalists and influencers, who’ve been listening to all about Joyce’s masterpiece and how 2022 marks 100 a long time because its publication. 

Susan Bolger, Tourism Ireland’s Supervisor in Spain, explained: “Tourism Ireland is delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alison Gilliland, to Madrid on Bloomsday, as we celebrate the centenary of Joyce’s Ulysses and highlight Dublin and our wealthy literary heritage. We will go on to spotlight Ulysses 100 right here in Spain and in other key marketplaces all-around the world – notably to our crucial ‘culturally curious’ viewers. Our aim is toencourage likely people to arrive and comply with in the footsteps of Leopold Bloom, to explore Dublin and the residence of Ulysses.”
