Thailand Drops Quarantine Rule for Vaccinated U.S. Travelers Starting Nov. 1

Thailand will lift all quarantine requirements for vaccinated travelers from the United States in November, allowing American tourists to travel anywhere in the country unrestricted.

Starting Nov. 1, fully-vaccinated U.S. tourists will be able to skip quarantine if they show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken before their trip and get tested again upon arrival, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

The decision comes weeks after Thailand laid out a phased reopening plan, including allowing vaccinated travelers to head to Bangkok on Nov. 1. The country already allows fully-vaccinated tourists to travel to Phuket and Ko Samui, but requires extensive paperwork, including securing a Certificate of Entry, showing proof of insurance that would cover up to $100,000 in potential COVID-19 treatments, pre-booking a stay at an SHA Plus-certified hotel for at least seven nights, and booking and prepaying for all required on-the-ground testing. The United Kingdom’s Department for Transport plans to ease quarantine restrictions for vaccinated residents heading home from the U.S. and many other countries in Europe in the coming weeks.

The new protocols would apply to fully-vaccinated people traveling to countries on the UK’s “amber” list, which includes the U.S., The Associated Press reported. The new policy will likely go into effect in phases later this summer.

“We’re moving forward with efforts to safely reopen international travel this summer, and thanks to the success of our vaccination program, we’re now able to consider removing the quarantine period for fully vaccinated UK arrivals from amber countries – showing a real sign of progress,” Transport Secretary Grant Shapps told the AP in a statement.

In addition, the UK added several destinations to its “green” list, including Malta, Bermuda, and the British

By that date, Ige said he expects Hawaii will have reached a 60% statewide vaccination rate. Currently, 62% of all residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine and 57% are fully vaccinated, according to Hawaii’s Department of Health.

“Our residents have sacrificed and worked hard to get to this point, but we still have more to do,” Ige said in a statement. “Please get vaccinated to protect yourselves and your loved ones. We are close to achieving a 70% vaccination rate, at
