Hawaii Drops Plan to Require Booster Shots for Tourists

Hawaii has reversed course on its plans to require vaccinated travelers to have a booster shot as a part of its Safe Travels program, the state’s governor said Tuesday.

“In making this decision, we considered declining COVID-19 case counts in Hawai’i, the continental U.S. and Europe. Hospitalizations have also dropped. In addition, we looked at Hawaiʻi’s robust vaccination rates and the continued push by businesses and organizations to get their employees vaccinated and boosted for the safety of their families and the community,” Ige said in a statement. “At this time, we will also maintain the indoor mask mandate and other rules that have helped us manage this pandemic while reopening the economy.”

Hawaii to Waive Testing Requirements for Fully Vaccinated U.S. Travelers Starting Next Month

Hawaii will allow fully vaccinated domestic travelers to skip pre-arrival testing and quarantine requirements, the state’s governor said Thursday.

Starting July 8, all travelers were vaccinated in the United States will be allowed to upload their vaccination card to Hawaii’s Safe Travels Program in lieu of the previously-required COVID-19 PCR test, Gov. David Ige’s office announced.

By that date, Ige said he expects Hawaii will have reached a 60% statewide vaccination rate. Currently, 62% of all residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine and 57% are fully vaccinated, according to Hawaii’s Department of Health.
